How to prepare for a cleanse?

A pre-cleanse will be extremely beneficial to prepare your body for a cleanse. Those who lead (or maintain) a healthier lifestyle should typically begin their pre-cleanse 2-3 days prior to a juice cleanse. Individuals with unhealthy food habits and/or high toxin exposure may have an easier transition by preparing a week in advance. Those with little to no experience with cleansing will also benefit from a week’s preparation.

Steps for pre-cleanse:

1.) Begin the day with a glass of room temperature water with fresh lemon juice immediately upon waking. This is an amazing and simple way to support your liver and will help flush out toxins that may have accumulated from the previous day.

*You can replace lemon with chlorophyll if you have acidosis.* This can also help to kick-start your metabolism and rev-up your digestive system for the day.

Also repeat this step before your last meal of each day.

2.) Research shows reducing or avoiding the following foods help to prepare the body for a cleanse: all processed/refined/fried foods and drinks. Also eliminate caffeine, meat, dairy, sugars, soda, alcohol, candy, and gum. Don't worry, there is still plenty to eat and it can still be delicious! We encourage lots of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds, and plenty of water to hydrate, nourish and cleanse the body.

What you may experience during a cleanse?

During a cleanse you may initially experience some uncomfortable symptoms such as: acne breakouts, (bowel changes)diarrhea or constipation, cold-like symptoms, headaches, fatigue and/or muscles soreness. This is referred to as the ‘healing crisis’.
Why does this happen? Over time toxins and other harmful substances become trapped in the body. During this elimination/releasing process these substances surface and can temporarily irritate us. Each of us are unique and may experience different symptoms.  First time cleansers may notice more symptoms arise during their detox than those who cleanse more regularly. Note that these symptoms do not necessarily occur, but being aware of their possibility will create less panic or discomfort if they happen. Pre-cleansing can minimize this ‘uncomfy phase’. Just know it’s a good thing and you are purging all the unwanted junk that is lingering inside your body and making you feel crappy!

Now ready for the good news? After the initial hump, you may notice increased energy, improved skin complexion, increased confidence, improved digestion with less bloating and gas (which = a flatter stomach!), weight loss, mental clarity, improved mood, a feeling of emotional balance, and overall awesomeness. Now who doesn’t want to feel that? We definitely want you to!

How to transition to post-cleanse and maintain healthy eating habits?

Transitioning from detox to the post-cleanse phase is as important of a process as the pre-cleanse transition into cleanse phase. Therefore, properly transitioning should be highly regarded. Slowly reintroducing heavy cooked foods into your diet once the cleanse is complete will help you to avoid any feelings of nausea or over-fullness that may arise. Keeping a light, mostly raw diet 2 days after your cleanse will blunt the shock on the body, and allow better digestion to occur for heavier cooked meals. Eating smaller portions every 2-3 hours is will also help your body to transition and boost your metabolism; your body will love you for it!

Delicious nutrient packed fresh smoothies, nut butters and fresh salads are great options for post-cleanse meals.

Tip: Drink your fluids 15 minutes before meals, or take very small sips during and after as liquids can dilute digestive juices and slow down digestion, ultimately slowing metabolism and ability to absorb nutrients as well as promoting inflammation and allergies.

And never forget, water, water, water, water..... the most simple but effective tool for health! It truly is the fountain of youth.
